The Science of Making Friends for Teens and Young Adults with ASD: The UCLA PEERS® Program

Deficits in social skills are considered one of the defining challenges among youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), yet few evidence-based social skills programs exist for adolescents and young adults with ASD without intellectual disabilities. Using the techniques outlined in her book, The Science of Making Friends: Helping Socially Challenged Teens and Young Adults, Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson provides an overview of her empirically supported social skills program for teens and young adults with ASD.

This lively and engaging webinar includes tips for parents, professionals, and educators on how to provide social coaching using concrete rules and steps of social behavior derived from the widely popular PEERS® program. This webinar includes easy-to-use strategies to assist teens and young adults with making and keeping friends and handling peer conflict and peer rejection, including research supported strategies for managing bullying.
