Transitioning to Adulthood: Employment Strategies and Life Skills for Teens and Young Adults with ASD
This webinar featured both Sarah Duhaime and Patricia O’Connor.
Sarah shares practical strategies geared to adolescents and young adults with high functioning ASD and preparing for summer employment or volunteer work including: how to get started on identifying skills/ interests, resume/interview tips, establishing regular routines, and where to job search. Sarah will also describe common and creative workplace accommodations.
Patricia shares information about the Transition To Life Program she has developed, which provides young adults with ASD direct training, coaching support, as well as the social engagement necessary to reach their potential and become contributing members of society. This program has demonstrated that youth and young adults with ASD can achieve meaningful employment, purposeful lifestyles and find a community of acceptance.
Sarah Duhaime, MSW, RSW is an Employment and Life Skills Coach at The Redpath Centre, and a Child Development Team Social Worker at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.
Patricia O’Connor has had a lifelong interest in assisting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). A desire to teach, along with her brother’s diagnosis of Autism, helped her develop a keen interest and awareness in the field of special education leading to a Master’s Degree in Education, in the area of Special Education.
